St. Lawrence Eastern Lake Ontario Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management is hosting a workshop series to recruit & train volunteers to help with early detection of invasive fish threatening our region. Tench, an invasive fish, has recently been detected in the St. Lawrence River & the Bay of Quinte, the sightings challenge belief that hydro dams will act as barriers against the spread of tench through the St. Lawrence River system.
There will be 2 separate workshops (Tuesday, June 25th 10am-2:30pm at the Nicandri Nature Center) and (Thursday, June 27, 10am-2:30pm at Keewaydin State Park Marina Community Rm, 45165 NYS Route 12, Alex Bay). Participants will learn to recognize invasive fish considered to be a high priority in our region. A brief demo on how to report invasive species observations via iMapInvasives mobile app will also be given, and you are encouraged to download the mobile app from google play or the AppStore to a mobile device prior to the workshop.
