Summer Recreation Program & Events

2021 Summer Recreation Programs begins Monday June 28th and goes through August 6th.  Supervised/ organized programs will be located this year only at the Massena High School.  Participants can be dropped off at the High School or they can get picked up by bus at 3 alternate locations and brought to the High School.  Drop off at the High School is strongly preferred as bus occupancy may be limited.  The 3 pick-up locations are: Bushnell Field (near Jefferson School), Alcoa Field, and North Main Park (near Madison School).  Pick-up at these locations will start at 9am and will only occur once a day.   Games and Activities will be offered Monday through Friday from 9-11:30 am.  An Arts and Crafts instructor will be on hand at the High School to offer a variety of arts and crafts projects for children of all ages.

Participants will receive a free lunch at the High School courtesy of the Massena Summer Lunch Program.  This is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays.  After lunch, the children will be bussed to the Massena Town Beach. On Wednesdays (all day beach days), a free lunch will be provided to all children participating in the morning program.  Wednesday lunch sponsors include Stewarts, An Italian Affair, Subway, and Sea-Comm Federal Credit Union.  All Drinks are generously provided by PEPSI-COLA.

Parents/Guardian can register their children ahead of time by contacting the Massena Recreation Department or the first day their child attends the program (if space exists).  Participants must be 5 years of age to attend the morning program and 7 years old to ride the bus to the Massena Town Beach.  Children under the age of 7 must be picked up prior to 11:30 am-the end of the morning portion.

This is a “drop-in” program which allows adults to drop off and pick-up children at any time they wish at the High School and Beach.  If the children become unruly, they will be sent home at any time during the program.  We are not a babysitting service.

Town Beach Bussing– Beach busses will run from June 28th– August 6th picking up swimmers at the High School starting at 11:30 am.  The buses will leave the Massena Town Beach at approximately 3:30 p.m. daily, having all children back at their pickup location by 4:00pm (depending on bus usage/occupancy).  For programming purposes, our preference is to have children picked up at the Massena Town Beach at 3:30pm.  A consent form must be signed by a parent/guardian for each child riding the bus to the beach and/or High School pickup.  Children must be 7 years old to be allowed to ride the bus to the Beach but would be able to ride the bus to the High School.  Playground programs and beach bussing are offered free of charge to the youth of Massena. Participants should have a backpack, swimsuit, sunscreen, water bottle, multiple masks and possible change of clothes.  Masks will be required to wear while indoors and on the bus.
