After a truly old-fashioned winter, weather-wise, welcome back to view my second year of quarterly updates for our Town of Massena’s Website! Read on...

Downtown
At our core, you'll find the Massena Downtown district with its unique shops, restaurants, a 108-room hotel, professional storefront-style offices, public library, financial institutions, jewelers, the Chamber of Commerce, a fitness center, realtors, a drug store and convenient, ample parking. You'll also find our Town Hall in the center of it all with offices for both the Town and Village governments, our community police service and courtrooms. With the Grasse River crossing through the Downtown, a major riverfront development opportunity is just around the corner.
Just beyond the intersections of our Downtown, the commerce districts of Main Street (North and South) and Orvis Streets (East and West) provide a mixture of fraternal organizations, service clubs, a wide variety of retail merchants, the town museum, car dealers, restaurants, insurance agencies, service stations and churches -- interspersed with residential dwellings.
Business - Both New & Old
Where the major transportation artery of Route 37 crosses Main Street, you'll find a number of new developments beside those of long-time establishments. With the highest traffic count for the community, this intersection has become a focal point for development with major fast-food chains, convenience stores, auto parts dealers and a drug store finding a home within a block or two. You'll also find the home of 2 of our region's news publications and health care satellite locations housed in recently constructed buildings.
Our Route 37 Corridor -- from the intersection with Main Street all the way out past the St. Lawrence Centre Mall -- offers prime commercial locations. Already finding a home along this well-traveled path are financial institutions, public utility companies, big box retailers, restaurants, building supply stores, motels, auto service shops, assisted living centers, antique shops, state police offices, schools, places of worship and lots of land ready for development.
Harte Haven Shopping Plaza
Situated along that corridor, you will also find the Harte Haven Shopping Plaza which features a major grocery store, an 8-cinema movieplex, restaurants and assorted retail stores. The community-built Massena Arena complex attracts residents and visitors to the Harte Haven Plaza throughout the year.
In the late 1980s, Massena became the home of a regional shopping mall that caters to shoppers on both sides of the international border we share with Canada. Specialty shops join such major retail anchors as JC Penney and Bon Ton. The Mall also houses professional offices, a food court and the St. Lawrence Centre Arena. On adjacent parcels to the Mall, you'll find Hannaford Foods, BJ's Wholesale Club and additional retail and restaurant businesses. For a current directory of Mall businesses or more information, visit their website.
